It is commonly believed that Edison was "the inventor of the light bulb," but it is well documented that there were many precursors. Edison perfected the tungsten-filament light bulb, but many other filaments were attempted before, notably including platinum, tantalum, and osmium. Welsbach had an operating version by 1898. General Electric of the U.S. had its tungsten version of the incandescent bulb by 1906. |
