Postcard showing another northward view, with slightly different position of viewer from the previous photo. The Urangelbfabrik can be seen more clearly in this view. Color production had started in 1855 and was transferred to this site in 1871 and was named "The Imperial and Royal factory for production of uranium yellow color." The factory produced nine different shades of yellow and orange color used in glass and porcelain. This factory was originally a plant for silver extraction. After radium had been discovered by the Curies in 1898 from refuse material (10 tons of ore already processed and extracted for uranium), the plant became active in radium production. At an early stage (until 1905) radium had been produced by Buchler and Company in Braunschweig {LINK to Braunschweig}, but in 1907 radium production began in the color factory in Jáchymov itself, and a monopoly for radium was held 1909-1913.
