Behind the statue of Edward the Black Prince are eight statutes of nymphs and four more statues of noteworthy citizens. This statue of James Watt (1736-1819), famous inventor of improvements to the steam engine, by Henry Charles Fehr (1867-1940), once assistant to Thomas Brock. The other statues are of John Harrison (1579-1656), woolen cloth merchant, also sculpted by Henry Charles Fehr; and Dean Hook 1798-1875 church leader in Leeds, sculpted by Frederick William Pomeroy 1856-1924); and Joseph Priestley (see next photo).
