Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese has lived through the reigns of over a dozen monarchs. It is announced as "Rebuilt 1667" because of the destructive Great London Fire which swept through Medieval London September 2-5, 1666 (an earlier pub existed here since 1538). This fire started in a bakery, as did the Great Fire of Turku in 1827 {LINK: Turku 614}. St. Paul's Cathedral (which looked much different then) was destroyed in the fire.
