"This stone was laid by his Royal Highness Prince Albert for the laboratories of the Royal College of Chemistry - presented by the Counciland Member - June 16 1846." The stone is now preserved in the Imperial College {LINK: London2G-664} The Royal School of Mines (south by about 1 km, on Jermyn Street) joined the Royal College of Chemistry in 1853.
