Thomas Guy (1644-1724) founded the hospital. It was established as a hospital to admit the hopelessly incurable or insane from St. Thomas Hospital. Now the two hospitals are part of the National Health Service (NHS) and are administered by the Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
