Directly across the street, to the viewer's back (which is now a shopping mall area), is the site where John Hatchett (the father of Charles Hatchett, the discoverer of niobium) had his mansion. It is possible that Charles had his residence here for part of the period 1786 (when Charles got married) to 1795 (when the official residence got registered for Charles at Hammersmith), during which time Charles and his wife did much traveling across Europe.
An interesting reference was found in the Guildhall Library {LINK: London2A-500}: "“The Carriage made for the Empress of Russia is now ready for inspection. Mssr. Hatchett, Son, and Co. August 2, 1790." It is known that Charles Hatchett traveled to St. Petersburg to deliver a coach in 1790 {LINK: St. Petersburg 520} and visited Klaproth on the way. The Empress in question was Catherine the Great {LINK: St. Petersburg 542}.
