This classic photograph of the mansion of Cavendish at Clapham Common where he lived 1785-1810. This was the 4th home of Cavendish in London, but he had multiple houses, sometimes overlapping chronogically. At this home he had a major scientific setup including thermometers, rain-gauges, workshops, laboratories, and an observatory. Here he performed his famous "density of the earth" experiment (i.e., he "weighed" the earth). The house was demolished in 1905. The view is east.
