Previous | Home | NextThis succinct plaque tells the story of Owens College: founded by Edward Frankland, who was a pioneer in organometallic chemistry. Henry Enfield Roscoe, who had done a postdoctoral study with Bunsen {LINK: Heidelberg}, became a powerful administrator and built up this university, overseeing its evolution and move to the modern University of Manchester. His achievement in the chemistry of the elements was the first isolation of metallic vanadium.
