Previous | Home | NextRue Saint Antoine is marked as the major thoroughfare leading from central Paris to points east. The Saint Antoine Gate sides beside the Bastille. Although originally designed as a fortress, it later held political prisoners, and at the time of the Revolution was used to store gunpowder. Lavoisier had his famous laboratory at La Petit Arsenal (Arcenal) and resided and worked there 1775-1792. La Arsenal (Arcenal) was used to manufacture and store cannons and other military hardware.
