Leblanc developed a method for producing soda ash (sodium carbonate) .The Leblanc process utilizes a two-step process where sea salt and sulfuric acid are reacted to form sodium sulfate, then are mixed with charcoal and limestone to produce the final product. The method has been replaced by the Solvay process involving sea salt, limestone, and ammonia.
