Previous | Home | NextThe Boulevard de la Madeleine wasn't even officially named yet; its name wasn't given and the street wasn't officially opened until 1792, the same year Lavoisier moved into his new (and final) home. The well known Place de la Madeleine (see below) in 1739 (date of the Turgot Plan) was a mansion complex on a small plot of land; a building here through the years had served as a church and an oratory. The building shown in this Turgot Plan, the Hotel de Chevilly, dated from 1728. The construction of the present Église de la Madeleine has a long history, having been started in 1763 and finalized only in 1842.
