Above the door is the inscription: "King Louis XVIII raised this monument to consecrate the place where the mortal remains of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette, transfered on 21 January 1815 to the royal sepulcre of Saint-Denis, have been reposed for 21 years. It was finished during the second year of the reign of Charles X, year of grace 1826." (After Louis XVI died in 1774, Napoleon I was Emperor 1804-1814, Louis XVIII king 1814-1815, Napoleon I again in 1815, Louis XVIII again 1815-1824, then Charles X 1824-1830).
