The view southward in the Cordelier complex (the Couvent is to the extreme left). About the courtyard was the site of the actual laboratory where the gallium research was conducted in 1875, in laboratories fashioned from old medical pavilions. These laboratories existed approximately 1850-1876. Wurtz had a new laboratory built which was available for research in 1877; this laboratory was at the corner of Rue Hautefeuille and Rue de l'École de Médecine, behind the viewer.
