Note the name of Vauquelin (discoverer of chromium and beryllium). Vauquelin did not discover these elements here, but instead at the 2nd École des mines {LINK: parisC606}. This illustrates the practice of cumul, whereby a French professor would hold posts at many universities across Paris, thereby amplifying his salary and prestige. The list of universities for any given professor can be quite confusing to the historian, who may have a difficult time discovering just where a particular chemist did a key piece of research.
