Paris, France/parisG110Previous | Home | NextThe amphitheatre (Amphitheatre de Verniquet) was a popular site for lectures and demonstrations, particularly in biology. Some lectures were given in chemistry, but Rouelle's famous chemistry demonstrations, which he gave while he was demonstrator of the Jardin du Roi 1742-1768, were given in his laboratory (see above). The amphitheatre was constructed after Rouelle's lectures, but some chemistry demonstrations were given here afterwards, but the amphitheatre's lectures continued notably in zoology and anatomy. This amphitheatre, allowed to fall into disrepair after its construction in 1788, has recently been remodeled and is now quite attractive; it is used today for lectures. The view is north, toward Rue Cuvier. |
