This is the statue of Jacob Sturm von Sturmeck, found on rue de la Haute Montée. Under his political guidance in the 1520s, the city of Strasbourg embraced the religious teachings of Martin Luther and created a climate for progressive growth. The enterprising and bold Paracelsus found it an ideal site for his career, and he settled here in 1526 with thoughts of making it his permanent home (before he was called to Basel, Switzerland, the following year to heal the famous Frobenius).
