Workers had to cross the Zwickauer Mulde in order to reach the textile mill, using large stones in the river, but sometimes were forced to use boats. Frequently the river would flood, particularly during the spring floods. Then the workers would sing their ditty,

"Ri ra rutschika
Wir fahren nach Amerika
Und wenn das große Wasser kommt,
dann kehr(e)n wir wieder um."

("Rah rah slippery slide
We travel to Amerika
And when the floods come
We will turn around and go back.")

To the workers the expanse of water reminded them of crossing the ocean to America, a migration that many of their relatives were then making.
