Berlin, Germany/berlin066Previous | Home | NextThis is the original sample in which Klaproth discovered uranium -- torbernite, Cu(UO2)2(PO4)2 11H2O. Torbernite is an example of a secondary mineral, which is formed by leaching of the original mineral (pitchblende). Secondary minerals are easier to analyze because they are more readily soluble. (Other examples of secondary minerals include malachite or azurite, basic copper carbonates which are formed by leaching of copper sulfide minerals in nature). |
