Four km west of the Brandenburg Gate is the old Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (Physics-Technical Federal Institute) in Berlin-Charlottenburg. (There is presently a very active branch of the Bundesanstalt we have previously visited {LINK: to Braunschweig Anstalt}, which was established in 1950). It was here in Berlin that rhenium was discovered by Noddack, Tacke, and Berg.
