At the bottom are photographs of the three scientists who discovered the elements Mendeleev famously predicted -- Winkler and germanium, Nilson and scandium {LINK: to Nilson in Uppsala, Sweden}, Boisbaudran and gallium {LINK: to Boibaudran in Cognac, France}. Winkler's discovery was the clincher; Boisbaudran's discovery was first.
