Ekaterinburg-Beresov, Russia/ekatberezov800Previous | Home | NextThe previous map has been simplified and overlain with the location of the precious metals of the Nizhniy Tagil. Platinum (marked by "Pt") can be found both in alluvial placers and in rock outcroppings, all along the Urals. Interestingly, palladium-gold alloy can also be found at a localized site (marked by "Pd-Au"), just as it was in Brazil {LINK: to Brazil}. The Urals in this map are not particularly high, generally 300-500 meters (1000-1600 feet; light green) in altitude; there are a few areas where the altitude reaches 500-800 meters (1600-2600 feet; tan color). In some of the river valleys, the altitude dips to 150 meters (500 feet; darker green). At the extreme north of this map, Kushva was built around 1735 literally beside a magnetic iron ore mine, Blagodat, which was visited by Mendeleev the following century {LINK: to St. Petersburg}. |
