The plaque celebrates 200 years of the school at Banská Štiavnica, 1763-1963 and explains the history succintly and clearly of the evolving academy: "In 1763 there was in Banská Štiavnica founded the first Chair [or Department] of the Banská Academy. The first Professor was J. van Jacquin, who started to teach Chemistry and Metallurgy on September 1, 1764. In 1765 the Department of Mathematics, Mechanics and Hydraulics was founded. In 1770 the Department of Mining was founded. In 1807 the Forestry Institute associated with the Academy was founded. In 1919 the Academy was closed. This plaque was installed on the occasion of celebration of 200 years of th Academy on August 24, 1964."
