Previous | Home | NextThis is the plaque in the center. On 1876 the centennial of the discovery of oxygen was celebrated in Northumberland by the First National Congress. This meeting inspired the founding of the American Chemical Society two years later. The Priestley Medal, first presented in 1923, is awarded by the American Chemical Society annually "for distinguished services to chemistry."
