Oak Ridge, Tennessee/oakridge082Previous | Home | NextThe purpose of the Graphite Reactor was manifold in an effort to understand the atomic pile and reaction products that might be produced by an environment with a massive influx of neutrons. Plutonium was produced here in quantities to understand its chemistry (the major plutonium production was soon to be developed at Hanover, Washington). The Graphite Reactor is 10.6 km (6.6 miles) southeast of the museum, which we will next visit. |
