Antonine-Jérôme Balard

1802-1876

  He was a Professor of chemistry at the Sorbonne and the Collège de France who earlier discovered bromine in brines while a Lecturer at Montpellier, France. It is thought that the brines he used were from Sete or Aigues-Mortes, France.
