Albertus Magnus (Albert the Great)
1193-1280
Albert the Great was a Dominican friar.
He became famous for his scientific wisdom and
promotion for the peaceful coexistence of science and religion.
Arsenic was first
isolated by Albert the Great in 1250, who heated orpiment with soap.
Pope Pius XI declared Albert both a saint and a doctor of the Church
in 1931. Pope Pius XII declared Albert the patron saint of the natural
sciences in 1941. |
