He was a Roman scholar who wrote many scientific and historical accounts, including his great encyclopedia of nature, Historia Naturalis, which extensively deals with astronomy, geography, anthropology, physiology, zoology, botany, horticulture, medicine, mineralogy, metallurgy, and art.
