He was an apothecary and assessor of the Medical College in Berlin, Germany. Rose was raised by Klaproth after the father, Valentin Rose (the elder) died. Valentine Rose (the younger) had the two sons Gustav and Heinrich, who grew to become important scientists at the University of Berlin.
