This is the Museu do Ouro (Museum of Gold) on Rua de Intendência (no. 15 on following map). The museum occupies the building which was the original foundry established in 1730, and is the only foundry still existing in Brazil. One-fifth of the gold produced here was sent to the Portuguese Crown as a tax. As the gold production diminished, the building became a residence (1833), then a school, finally a museum in 1946.
