This is an expansion of a current map showing the lower part of the modern state of Chocó in Colombia, which includes the upper Rio San Juan region (its modern name has dropped the "de"). There are hundreds of rivers (rios) and forks (quebradas) where platinum placers may be found; the gold and silver has washed down from the mountains to the east. Mineralogical specimens of platinum from Colombia are generally labeled as "from Chocó" with exact location not recorded, owing to the hundreds of different possible sites. To the extreme northwest is Rio Baudo; and to the north is a branch (Rio San Pablo) of Rio Arato. See next photo for identifications of villages associated with the platinum industry.
