London, England/london2C-197Previous | Home | NextThomas Thomson (42) developed important detailed histories of chemistry which are still used today {LINK: London2B-500}. Richard Trevithick (51) built the first steam locomotive and passenger train. This list is not all-inclusive; notable missing persons include Smithson Tennant, discoverer of iridium and osmium and close associate of William Hyde Wollaston. The fact that no known portrait exists of Tennant is not the reason for his absence here, since none exists for Joseph Bramah (50), whose back is shown (he was inventor of the hydraulic press; he was issued patents on the flushing toilet and the beer pump). Also missing is Count Rumford, the founder of the Royal Institution. |
