The meter, gram, and litre were adopted enthusiastically, while the decimal time system was soon abandoned. The French also concocted a "Revolutionary calendar" starting in "An I" ("Year One"), with 12 months named after nature, such as "frimaire" ("cold"), "nivose" ("snowy"), "floreal" ("flower"), and "thermidor" ("heat"). This calendar was dropped in 1805 by order of Napoleon I. |
