Previous | Home | NextIn the museum is prepared a busy table montage describing Balard's research on bromine (shown on this and the next seven photos). This exhibit was prepared in 1976 for the 150th anniversary of the discovery of bromine by Paul Jalmes, Professor of toxicology and analytical chemistry at the University. This is the left-hand side of the table montage. On the uppermost shelf is apparatus from the Montpellier laboratory of Balard, and to the left is pinned the discovery dates of the halogens: chlorine by Scheele (1774), iodine by Courtois (1811), bromine by Balard (1826), and fluorine by Moissan (1886) -- all reminding us that the French discovered 3/4 of the total halogen family.
