The statue is of Goethe, who was trained in a law career at Strasbourg, but whose romantic and poetic temperament found the atmosphere much to his liking. Goethe was vitally important in the development of the Chemistry Department at Jena University in Germany, and thus indirectly to the inception of the "Law of Triades." {LINK: to jena}
