This is much as it appeared during Klaproth's childhood in Wernigerode -- in 1542/3 the towers were erected, and the next renovation (including the addition of colorful painting) occurred in 1713, thirty-one years before Klaproth's birth (the next renovation did not occur until 1845, long after Klaproth's death). Proceeding 350 meters down the road to the left would take one to Klaproth's birthplace.
