The red crystal of bastnäsite, on the side of the specimen towards the viewer, is marked with a copper tag placed there by Bengt. We analyzed the crystal when we returned to the U.S. and found it to contain 26% lanthanum, 29% cerium, and 6% neodymium, with lesser amounts of other light rare earths. |
