"Former chapel of the house "Zum Vorderen Sessel." [this was the name of the home given by Froben]. "Middle of the 15th century. A look at an alchemical workshop of the 16/17th century. Alchemy -- a precursor to modern chemistry -- was originally an oriental secret, first brought to Europe in the Middle Ages. Many of the methods used in modern chemistry were adopted from alchemical techniques. The method of purification was of prime interest to the alchemists. This concept captivated Paracelsus -- who believed that effective medicines should be pure essences.
