Sir Humphry Davy
1778-1829
He was the professor at the Royal Institution in London, England, who pioneered electrolysis for the preparation of reactive metallic elements. He also invented the safety lamp for miners (see below). Davy breaks the record for the number of natural elements discovered by one person: potassium, sodium, calcium, barium, strontium, magnesium, and boron (this list does not include elements beyond uranium; this honor goes to Ghiorso, who discovered even more of the transuranium elements). | ||
